MDWFP Black Bear Program Rehomes Abandoned Cub

SUMMARY: The , Fisheries, and Parks rescued an abandoned black bear cub from the South Delta and relocated it to Wilkinson County. The cub was unexpectedly abandoned by its mother, prompting biologists to intervene and introduce the cub to a mature sow with cubs. The program has been conducting den checks since 2003 to study the black bear population. Cub abandonment is rare, with less than five cases in the program's history. The program relies on from private partners and Mississippi . Donations to the Black Bear Program can be made through the Foundation for Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.

USM Army and Air Force ROTC programs host Commissioning Ceremonies

SUMMARY: Ten Army and three Force cadets from the of Southern Mississippi (USM) ROTC were commissioned as Second Lieutenants. The Army ceremony at Camp Shelby Major General Janson D. Boyles, while the Air Force ceremony on campus featured Brigadier General Mary-Kathryn Haddad. LTC Juan J. Ortiz praised the Army cadets for their leadership, and Lt. Col. Sheena Puleali'i commended the Air Force cadets for their commitment. Distinguished Military Graduate 2LT Jeremiah J. Parker expressed pride in his and future goals.
