Each week, students listened to a new book and guessed which teacher was reading it. The goal was to get kids excited about reading and show them that it can be fun. Students were also encouraged to take AR tests to track their progress towards their AR goals. The GATE test is a standardized test that all third-grade students must pass to advance to the fourth grade.

Wiggins firefighter pinned in fire engine accident released from hospital

Around midnight, the Wiggins Fire Department's engine rolled multiple times en route, trapping a firefighter underneath. The firefighter was rescued using the jaws of life and transported to a hospital, where she has been discharged and is expected to fully recover. The person involved in the initial single-vehicle accident was also freed and was uninjured. Fire Chief Steve Purvis provided this information.
