Special counsel: Biden ‘willfully’ disclosed classified materials, but no criminal charges warranted
SUMMARY: President Joe Biden willfully retained and disclosed highly classified documents as a private citizen, including sensitive national security materials about Afghanistan. Despite this, the Justice Department report states no criminal charges are warranted. The documents were found in his Delaware home and private office, including opposition to the troop surge in Afghanistan. Biden's memory issues, authority as VP, and lack of clear security procedures for retention of classified materials were reasons for not pursuing charges. The investigation aims to avoid conflicts of interest and is separate from Trump's indictment. Biden chose not to assert executive privilege over the report, and the White House was given the opportunity to review and comment on it.
