Mississippi Supreme Court hears arguments over pandemic relief money being used for private schools
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Supreme Court listened to arguments about a law allocating federal pandemic relief funds to infrastructure grants for private schools. A judge had blocked the law in 2022 after a lawsuit claimed it would give private schools an unfair advantage over public schools. The grants, worth up to $100,000 each, were at the center of the debate. The panel of three justices is expected to make a ruling on the issue anytime between now and June.

Jackson residents encouraged to prepare for Thursday’s storms
SUMMARY: City officials are urging residents in the Metro area to be prepared for severe weather expected tomorrow, including strong winds and hail. A new law was introduced in April to address tree risks, requiring residents to report overhanging limbs that could pose a danger. The city council emphasizes the importance of having good insurance in case of storm damage. Residents are advised to avoid approaching downed power lines. Public Works and solid waste departments will be monitoring the situation closely.
