Mississippi legislators approve incentives for 2 large data centers by Amazon Web Services
SUMMARY: Mississippi lawmakers have approved a $44 million incentive package to support Amazon Web Services' plan to spend $10 billion on two data centers in the central part of the state. These data centers are expected to create 1,000 jobs and become operational by 2027, bringing large private investment and high-paying jobs to the state. There are concerns that the economic development projects have not been pursued in predominantly Black areas, but it is expected that the data centers will drive investment in different parts of the state. Entergy Mississippi and Amazon have been in collaboration for several years to attract tech projects to the state.

SUMMARY: Ten Army and three Air Force cadets from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) ROTC were commissioned as Second Lieutenants. The Army ceremony at Camp Shelby featured Major General Janson D. Boyles, while the Air Force ceremony on campus featured Brigadier General Mary-Kathryn Haddad. LTC Juan J. Ortiz praised the Army cadets for their leadership, and Lt. Col. Sheena Puleali'i commended the Air Force cadets for their commitment. Distinguished Military Graduate 2LT Jeremiah J. Parker expressed pride in his training and future goals. Commissioned cadets include 2LT Miruna Avram, 2LT Braxton Bailey, 2LT Jada Fairley, among others.
