Lee County sheriff works on goals for upcoming 6th term
SUMMARY: Sheriff Jim Johnson has been serving as Lee County Sheriff, overseeing approximately 150 employees and the operations of the county jail. He is grateful for the support of voters as he begins his sixth term. Johnson's top priority is to get a new jail and a justice complex, including courts and a morgue. The current jail is at capacity, with overflow inmates in another county. One pressing problem is how to better deal with inmates who have mental health issues. Despite the challenges, Johnson is looking forward to the next four years and sees the re-election as support for the job he and his staff do.

Starkville businesses see less customers during summer breaks
SUMMARY: Mississippi State's spring semester has ended, with seniors graduating and many students moving home for the summer. This seasonal migration causes a dip in local businesses' foot traffic. Brikley Spencer from Maroon and Co. noted that they offer promotions to attract customers. Bart Wood of Little Dooey mentioned that while there's a slowdown, recent developments like Cornerstone Park tournaments and MSU camps keep Starkville active. Both businesses largely employ college students, but the summer schedule balances staffing needs. Despite past challenges, Wood says conditions have improved, and they adapt annually, considering even shortening hours during slower periods.
