Sentencing postponed for Mississippi police officers who tortured 2 Black men
SUMMARY: Sentencing for six former Mississippi law enforcement officers who pleaded guilty to torturing two Black men has been postponed by a federal judge. The officers, who have been charged with racially motivated, violent torture, requested more time to review presentencing reports and prepare objections. The officers were accused of bursting into a home without a warrant and assaulting the victims with stun guns and other objects while taunting them with racial slurs. A coverup was attempted after a mock execution went wrong. The officers pleaded guilty to assault, conspiracy, and obstruction of justice charges. The sentencing date has not yet been rescheduled.
