The City of DeKalb addresses concerns over enforcement agreements
SUMMARY: The mayor and Board of Aldermen of DeKalb held a meeting to decide on sending a contract termination to the Board of Supervisors. The mayor wanted to address concerns regarding their agreement with the Kemper County Sheriff's Department, as the city has lacked a police department for several years. The discussion about a Town Marshal was tabled until the next Board of Supervisors meeting in July, where the mayor, Sheriff Moore, and a supervisor will discuss future plans. Mayor Adams emphasized the need for part-time law enforcement to manage town safety and traffic violations despite limited financial resources. A final decision will be made in July.
The responsibilities of the Town Marshal are to work part-time while attending all meetings and patrolling the city.
