Mississippi tops the nation in infant mortality
SUMMARY: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and FBI are conducting an investigation. The infant mortality rate in Mississippi has reached a five-year high, with over 300 infants dying before their first birthday in 2020-2021. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released these numbers, along with a 16% increase in infant deaths that year. Dr. Daniel Edney, the State Health Officer, states that the Mississippi State Department of Health is actively working to reduce these statistics.
