Hattiesburg set to begin roadwork in The Avenues
SUMMARY: The city of Hattiesburg will begin working on a project on Monday to slow down drivers cutting through residential neighborhoods. The improvements aim to increase pedestrian and bicycle access along the 100 block of South 16th Avenue, from Hardy Street to Concord Street. The project will involve closing the road for through traffic and only allowing pedestrians and bicycles. Parking will still be allowed for the zoo and the Hardy Street Baptist Church location. A left turn lane will also be added at South 17th and Hardy to allow for easier traffic flow.

SUMMARY: The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has awarded a $50,000 grant to the Houston Career and Technology Education Center for renovations to its engineering lab. The funds will be used to upgrade air conditioning units and the roof, enhancing student comfort and learning conditions. This improvement will prevent the need for students to relocate during hot summer months. The renovations are set to be completed by August 2025. TVA, along with its partner, Natches Trace Electric Power Association, is dedicated to supporting local educational initiatives.
