SUMMARY: A ridge of high pressure will cause dry and hot weather across much of the U.S. next week. In Columbus, Mississippi, there will be clear skies and comfortable temperatures in the upper 60s tonight. Tomorrow will be a bit warmer with lots of sunshine and highs in the low 90s. Temperatures on Tuesday will return to average in the mid-90s with mostly sunny skies. The rest of the week will remain close to average temperatures, reaching the mid-90s each afternoon. Moisture will increase on Wednesday, bringing back normal summertime humidity levels. Little to no rain is expected, except for a small chance on Sunday.

Lafayette County man arrested for sexual battery

Inmate at Union County Jail found dead in cell

SUMMARY: Kenneth Gerald Bennett, 36, of Blue Springs, was found dead in his cell at the Union County Jail on Saturday, June 1, around 4 p.m., due to an apparent suicide. Bennett, who was being held on charges of commercial burglary and grand larceny, was discovered by a detention officer. The Mississippi Department of Corrections had a hold on him.
