Hinds County approves pay increase for detention officers
SUMMARY: The Hinds County Board of Supervisors in Mississippi has approved a pay increase for detention officers. Starting from August 1, 2023, the salary for detention officers will be increased from $31,000 to $35,000. Additionally, detention sergeants' pay will increase from $35,300 to $40,000, and detention lieutenants' pay will increase from $38,200 to $42,500. This decision is part of the administration's efforts to improve recruitment and retention within the department by providing competitive pay. Previously, operations deputies and dispatchers also received significant pay increases. Sheriff Tyree Jones stated that the support for these increases is long overdue and will help address fair and competitive pay for the county's law enforcement staff.
