NCBC hosting Change of Command

SUMMARY: The Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC) in Gulfport will see a change of command on July 28. Captain Jeffrey Powell is retiring after 28 years of service, including the last three years as commanding officer of the NCBC. His successor is Captain Ana Franco, who is already familiar with the Gulf Coast area, having served there twice before. She first served as the chief staff officer for the 7th Naval Construction Regiment from 2014 to 2016 and then as the commanding officer of the Naval Construction Training Center from 2016 to 2018.

SUMMARY: Ten Army and three Air Force cadets from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) ROTC were commissioned as Second Lieutenants. The Army ceremony at Camp Shelby featured Major General Janson D. Boyles, while the Air Force ceremony on campus featured Brigadier General Mary-Kathryn Haddad. LTC Juan J. Ortiz praised the Army cadets for their leadership, and Lt. Col. Sheena Puleali'i commended the Air Force cadets for their commitment. Distinguished Military Graduate 2LT Jeremiah J. Parker expressed pride in his training and future goals. Commissioned cadets include 2LT Miruna Avram, 2LT Braxton Bailey, 2LT Jada Fairley, among others.
