Hinds County supervisor expelled after bringing gun to meeting

SUMMARY: Hinds County Board of Supervisors expelled District 2 Supervisor Tony Smith from a meeting for carrying a firearm without a concealed carry permit. Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones noticed Smith's gun under his jacket during a recess and addressed the issue. District 1 Supervisor Robert Graham stated they followed protocol based on the sheriff's advice. Smith was escorted to his vehicle, and the Board voted to expel him for the rest of the meeting. Smith did not have an enhanced carry permit, and no charges have been filed against him. Attempts to reach Smith for comment were unsuccessful.

Volunteers travel miles to help Columbus man fix his home

Persistent leaks over five years caused additional damage, and his insurance wouldn't cover the repairs due to the roof's age. With assistance from the United Way of the Greater Golden Triangle and a dedicated volunteer group from Pennsylvania's Mennonite Services, Spitler's home is now being repaired.
