Kia & Hyundai Investigation
SUMMARY: The Jackson Police Department in Mississippi is dealing with an increase in car thefts related to the viral TikTok challenge known as the “Kia Hyundai Challenge.” In June alone, 24 Kia and Hyundai vehicles were stolen, with many being used for joyrides. The targeted vehicles are turnkey Kias or Hyundais from 2011-2022, and criminals only need a screwdriver and a USB cord to steal them. The police department advises car owners to use steering wheel locks, video surveillance, and maintain good relationships with neighbors to protect their vehicles. This trend is not limited to Jackson and is a nationwide issue.
