Supreme Court rulings hailed by Mississippi conservatives
SUMMARY: The US Supreme Court ruled that President Biden's student debt relief program, which aimed to erase over $400 billion in debt for borrowers, was unconstitutional. The court's conservative majority stated that such a program requires congressional approval. Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves applauded the ruling. In a separate decision, the court ruled that a Colorado web designer was protected by the First Amendment in refusing to provide services for same-sex marriages. Mississippi, which passed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act in 2014, is not expected to see significant impact from this ruling.
