Heat danger increases next few days – Home – WCBI TV
SUMMARY: Temperatures in Columbus, Mississippi will be above 110 degrees for the next few days, with a heat index over 110 degrees. A ridge of higher pressure is causing the increase in temperatures, with plenty of hazy sun and highs in the mid to upper 90s. On Friday, temperatures could reach 100 degrees with more sunshine and a heat index that could briefly exceed 115 degrees in some areas. The weekend will still be hot, but there is a chance of scattered afternoon downpours. Next week, temperatures will be more normal for early July with a chance of afternoon rain or storms.

Starkville businesses see less customers during summer breaks
SUMMARY: Mississippi State's spring semester has ended, with seniors graduating and many students moving home for the summer. This seasonal migration causes a dip in local businesses' foot traffic. Brikley Spencer from Maroon and Co. noted that they offer promotions to attract customers. Bart Wood of Little Dooey mentioned that while there's a slowdown, recent developments like Cornerstone Park tournaments and MSU camps keep Starkville active. Both businesses largely employ college students, but the summer schedule balances staffing needs. Despite past challenges, Wood says conditions have improved, and they adapt annually, considering even shortening hours during slower periods.
