Coast Guard responds to oil leak on Mississippi River near Natchez

SUMMARY: A cargo barge discharged an estimated 3,402 of oil on the Mississippi near Natchez, Mississippi. An additional 1,000 gallons which were contained to the deck of the vessel, while 800 were recovered. The US Coast Guard and Kirby Marine, which owns the barge, have worked to contain the oil and clean up the area, with no reports of to wildlife. The cause of the discharge is under investigation.
