Young athletes compete in Junior Olympics in Jackson

SUMMARY: The second day of the US Region Six Junior Olympics at Hughes Field in Millsaps showcased various field events. In the 18 and under pole vault, Nick Fallon from Alabama set a personal record by clearing four meters. In the girls’ 12 and under pentathlon long jump, Morgan Martinez from Louisiana placed third, while Memphis teammates Allyson Oliver and Coryell Hamilton secured second and first, respectively, with Hamilton jumping 4.39m. In the triathlon high jump, Payton Johnson from New Orleans won by clearing 1.15m, followed by Coy Deming in second. Eight-year-old Jamya Stigall also made a memorable impression. Major track events begin tomorrow.

The US Region 6 Junior Olympics are underway in the Capital City and young athletes from all over the Southeast are competing. The Heptathlon and Decathlon athletes from various age groups 18 under took to Hughes Field and Millsaps College for the second day of competition. The main track and field events get started on Saturday with the finals set for Sunday.
