William Carey University holds “Health Sciences Day”

SUMMARY: Today, William Carey University hosted over 120 high school students for its second annual Health Sciences Day. The program taught students about careers in healthcare, particularly in nursing, pharmacy, and physical therapy. It included short sessions on topics such as intubation and human anatomy. According to Professor Veronica Scott, the main goals are to introduce students to healthcare careers before they graduate, improve diversity in the field, and to encourage students, especially those from Hattiesburg and surrounding areas in Mississippi, to see themselves in such roles. She hopes that this will motivate students to pursue careers in rural areas of the state that may have staffing shortages.

During the program, students learned about careers in nursing, pharmacy, and physical therapy.
