Women’s rights advocates celebrate as Gov. Reeves signs paid parental leave bill into law
SUMMARY: Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves signed House Bill 1063 into law, establishing the “Mississippi State Employees Paid Parental Leave Act.” Starting January 1, 2026, eligible state employees with at least one year of service can take six weeks of paid leave (100% salary) for newborn or newly adopted children. The bill passed with unanimous support after amendments reducing the leave from eight to six weeks.
