SUMMARY: Will Rogers, a former Mississippi State Bulldog, is transferring to Washington to play for Kalen De-Boer. Rogers cited Washington’s offensive system, skill players, and offensive line as the main attractions for him. With over 12,000 passing yards, he is leaving as the second all-time passing leader in SEC history and holds all major passing records at MSU. Rogers is regarded as one of the best transfer quarterbacks available and is the favorite to replace Heisman finalist Michael Penix Junior. This is a big move for Rogers as he heads to the west coast to continue his football career.

Former Missisisppi State Bulldogs and Brandon native Will Rogers will take his talents to Washington for his final year of college football. ESPN’s Pete Thamel broke the news on Friday night that the SEC’s second all time passer is going to the Huskies. Rogers told ESPN that the Washington offense, skill players and their offensive line were the key factors in his decision. Rogers leaves MSU with several program passing records and now he’ll have a chance to play for a team that aims to compete for a national championship this year and next year where he’ll be favorite to replace Heisman finalist Michael Penix Jr.

SUMMARY: The West Nile virus has been present in Mississippi since 2001, with fluctuating case numbers over the years. August is peak mosquito season, increasing the risk of infection. The virus spreads primarily through bites from infected mosquitoes. Precautions include avoiding outdoor activities at dawn and dusk, wearing long sleeves despite the heat, and using insect repellent containing DEET. Although cases are currently lower than in previous years, the first West Nile-related death of the year occurred in Washington County. Symptoms resemble the flu and appear days to weeks after a bite. Medical care focuses on managing symptoms, as there is no cure. Removing standing water helps reduce mosquito populations.

SUMMARY: Canton residents are raising concerns over a significant increase in their water bills, some rising by $200 to $300 or more. Canton Municipal Utilities (CMU) issued a rate update in June, explaining that rates were too low for the past decade to cover rising costs like labor, energy, and materials, leading to guaranteed bill increases. Some residents, including a local business owner, say they weren’t properly notified and feel the hikes exceed the stated 25% increase, calling it price gouging. Many are struggling to afford the higher costs. A town hall is planned, and CMU will discuss assistance next Tuesday. Residents are encouraged to contact CMU with questions.
