SUMMARY: Despite temperatures not being as hot as last month, more than half the state is under a burn ban due to dry conditions. The Mississippi Forestry Commission has reported that 517 wildfires have burned over 9000 acres since August 1st. To combat these fires, the US Forest Service in Mississippi is using drones. These drones have spent 49 hours in the sky fighting wildfires and can provide crucial information to fire crews on the ground. They can also make controlled burns safer and are 80% cheaper than using manned flight.
