SUMMARY: Nearly a month after severe storms and tornadoes hit Mississippi, killing seven, injuring dozens, and leaving thousands homeless, a federal aid request remains unapproved. On March 14-15, 18 tornadoes, particularly in Walthall County, caused widespread devastation. Despite a request from Governor Reeves for federal assistance on April 1, the White House has not acted. Local efforts have been crucial, with community members and nonprofits providing essential services, but there is still no FEMA housing or Red Cross shelters. While other states received disaster declarations, Mississippi’s request is under review, leaving residents in urgent need of federal support.
