What early voting trends signal in North Carolina
SUMMARY: As Election Day approaches, early voting turnout in North Carolina has been robust, with over 3 million voters participating. At polling sites like Durham, lines are forming as voters head to cast their ballots after work. Currently, slightly more registered Republicans have voted compared to Democrats, a shift from the 2020 election. While traditionally strong Democratic voter groups, like Black voters, lag in turnout, Democrats are optimistic about crossover support from unaffiliated and younger voters. With four days left of early voting, both parties are keenly assessing trends to prepare for a closely contested election.
With just a week left to go until Election Day, we’re getting a better idea of who’s turning out to vote. Over 3.1 million people across North Carolina have cast ballots between absentee and early in-person voting. As of Tuesday, registered Republicans have a slight turnout edge over registered Democrats, 34%-33%, with the remaining 32% Unaffiliated.

'World's oldest baby' born from embryo frozen in 1994
SUMMARY: Thaddeus, born in Ohio, is now the world’s oldest baby conceived from an embryo frozen in 1994—over 30 years ago. His adoptive parents, Tim and Lindsey Pierce, who had struggled to conceive for seven years, received the embryo through a Christian embryo adoption agency. The embryo was originally created by Linda Archer and her then-husband using early IVF technology. Despite the embryo’s age, doctors confirm embryos frozen correctly can be as healthy as fresh ones. Thaddeus’s birth raises ethical questions about frozen embryos’ future and ownership, with around one million frozen in U.S. storage. Linda notes Thaddeus resembles her 30-year-old daughter.
