Calhoun City votes to allow sale of alcohol
SUMMARY: Calhoun City, Mississippi, has voted for the first time to permit the sale of alcohol, with a 4-to-1 decision influenced by House Bill 776. Mayor Marshall W. Coleman believes this will enhance local safety by reducing the need to travel for alcohol and could provide economic benefits, keeping tax revenues within the town. The decision reflects a push from citizens and business owners, despite controversy. Coleman has consulted with other towns that have seen growth after allowing alcohol sales. Local businesses are eager to start, aiming for sales by November, following the successful example set by nearby Bruce in 2022.
