SUMMARY: A glance at cameras from Sumrall and Petal shows no smoke plume due to low humidity. The weather will be nice with temperatures falling into the 40s. Skies will remain clear, with a warm up into the 70s expected. Rain chances are on the horizon, but details are still being fine-tuned. Storm potential is several days away. The next seven days in the Pine Belt will be warm and sunny initially, then possibly cooling off with the arrival of clouds. The change in weather is likely due to another cold front.

www.youtube.com – WJTV 12 News – 2025-05-16 09:15:27

SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Health (MSDH) and city leaders inspected Chapel Ridge Apartments in Jackson due to poor living conditions and trash overflow. City Councilman Vernon Hartley is advocating for an emergency declaration to use city and state resources to address the issues. The apartments, considered private property, limit the city’s ability to intervene fully. Hartley hopes declaring it a public health hazard will enable cleanup efforts, such as providing dumpsters. The trash problem has persisted for almost a month, and a motion for a potential cleanup process will be introduced at the next city council meeting.
