Volunteer firefighters have been critical in combating the icy weather

SUMMARY: First responders, including police officers, EMTs, paramedics, and firefighters, are being thanked for their hard work and dedication during a recent winter storm. Volunteer firefighters in Northeast Mississippi are also being recognized for their efforts in responding to emergencies despite having full-time jobs and families to care for. The Saltillo fire department has both paid firefighters and volunteers who step in to help their community when needed. Most emergency calls during the storm were related to car accidents and slips and falls. These volunteers are praised for their willingness to help, even when not on duty.

Law enforcement officers, medical personnel, firefighters and others have been working all week to help victims of the winter weather.
