State Fair Setup & Attendance
SUMMARY: The 164th Mississippi State Fair is approaching and vendors are preparing for the event. Last year's attendance was lower due to security concerns following a shooting at the fairgrounds months before. However, organizers hope that increased security measures and good weather will attract more attendees this year. Vendors like Robbie Covington are invested in the fair's success, as business was down about 20 to 30 percent last year. The economy also plays a role in fair attendance, as people are more inclined to spend money when the economy is doing well. While vendor supply costs are rising, some vendors like Andy Berry are keeping their prices the same to accommodate the public's affordability.

JPS Testing Coordinator
SUMMARY: Dr. Lorenda Cheeks, the former testing coordinator at Jackson Public Schools, is fighting to get her job back and defend her reputation against allegations of cheating. Cheeks, along with 16 other school officials, was fired in the aftermath of a cheating scandal on state tests. During a due process hearing, Cheeks learned that she had been terminated for not finding five seating charts for eighth-grade students that investigators wanted. Her attorney argues that this is unfair, as all other seating charts from the 52 tested schools were accounted for. State Senator Sollie Norwood believes Cheeks should get her job back or have her credibility restored. Jackson Public Schools declined to comment, stating that they are unable to disclose details regarding personnel matters.
