Two Jackson firefighters injured while responding to house fire
SUMMARY: Two Jackson firefighters were injured while attending a house fire late on November 19 in Jackson, Mississippi. The fire took place in the 300 block of Elms Court Circle just after 11:00 p.m. One firefighter was treated at Merit Health Central and released, while the other received on-site treatment. Both injuries were minor, and no additional injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Jackson Fire Department.

Former Jackson police officer appears in court on federal charges
SUMMARY: Former Jackson police officer Torrence Mayfield has been indicted for selling a firearm to a convicted felon and for selling ammunition to a prohibited person. He also faces a charge for making a false statement to a firearm dealer. Mayfield appeared in federal court and is being represented by Attorney Joe Hollomon. His trial date has been set for January 2, 2024, before U.S. District Judge Kristi Johnson.

ARF moving to new location in Hinds County
SUMMARY: The Animal Rescue Fund of Mississippi is planning to move and build a new facility on a 55-acre tract of land in Hinds County. The facility will house dogs and cats with small buildings, individual play yards, and larger team building play groups. There will also be large tunnels, hills, and splash pads for the dogs. The cat area will feature small rooms leading to screened-in porches with landscaping to attract birds and butterflies. The organization hopes to have the new facility finished within the next two years, and a capital campaign drive to fund the new facility will begin soon.
