Timberton Park complex reconstruction gets green light

SUMMARY: After more than seven years, the city of Hattiesburg has finally received the green light to rebuild the Timberton Softball Complex that was destroyed in a tornado in January 2017. The city council has unanimously accepted a bid to begin construction, with Culpepper Construction and Masonry set to reconstruct the park. The cost of the project will be almost three million dollars, with FEMA picking up 75 percent of the cost. Construction is expected to start sometime in 2025, with the project, including repairs to the press box that was gutted by fire in 2018, estimated to cost around $700,000. Insurance will finance the majority of the project.
