Third annual summit focuses on education, addiction recovery resources
SUMMARY: The drug epidemic affects not only big cities but also small towns, which struggle to find resources to combat addiction. In Tupelo, the United Way of Northeast Mississippi and the Health Alliance hosted their annual recovery and addiction summit at Cadence Bank Arena. Formed three years ago to enhance mental health resources in schools, the Health Alliance also addresses addiction and health issues among the homeless. The summit featured over 30 vendors and discussions on recovery stories, mental health awareness, and law enforcement crisis response. Attendees could explore diverse recovery options and access resources through the event.

SUMMARY: The Aberdeen Farmers Market is thriving, welcoming vendors from local farms like Cherry Creek Orchard and Shady Acres. Opening in early June, the market features fresh berries, plums, peaches, and other produce throughout the summer. Vendors enjoy interacting with customers, educating them on their farming practices, and building community ties. Mary Dunn, founder of Aberdeen’s Master Gardeners, sold out quickly on opening day, encouraging others to pursue gardening or baking. The market fosters friendships and bartering among vendors. It runs every Friday, 8 to 10 a.m., through the end of July at Commerce and Chestnut Street.
