There are strong ties between the Bulldogs and Gamecocks

SUMMARY: On Sports Saturday, the Bulldogs will be playing against the Gamecocks in Columbia, South Carolina. The head coach of the Gamecocks, Shane Beamer, has a history with Mississippi State University (MSU) as he got his first coaching job there and also met his wife, who is from Starkville and an MSU graduate. There are also connections between MSU and the Gamecocks’ linebacker, Stone Blanton, who grew up wanting to attend MSU. The game will also be a reunion for friends, including the Gamecocks’ athletic director, Zak Selmon, who will be attending his first away game in the SEC.

Mississippi State and South Carolina are intertwined in some ways. When the Bulldogs visit the Gamecocks on Saturday night they will be met by familiar faces. USC head coach Shane Beamer got his start in coaching at MSU. He was on Sylvester Croom’s staff in 2004. His wife is a MSU grad and Starkville native. MRA product Stone Blanton, Carolina’s starting middle linebacker, will be playing against the team he grew up rooting for as well.

SUMMARY: Parts of the region could see storms on Father’s Day, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and heat indices in the upper 90s. A high-pressure system will move in by Thursday, bringing well-above-average temperatures. Heat indices may reach 107–110 degrees by Friday, especially west of I-55 in Mississippi.
