The SWAC releases MBB preseason picks

SUMMARY: Alcorn State and JSU have been identified as among the top teams in the SWAC men’s basketball preseason picks. JSU’s point guard Chase Adams is a first team pick, while Romell Manzozo and Ken Evans Jr are second team picks. Alcorn State’s Jeremiah Kendall is also a first team pick for the Braves. Alcorn State is predicted to finish third in the SWAC, while JSU is expected to finish fourth. Texas Southern has been chosen as the favorite to win the conference. The competition begins tomorrow at the Country Club of Jackson.

The Jackson State Tigers led the way with preseason selections going into the 2023-2024 season. JSU had three players make preseason All-SWAC teams which led all programs. Point guard Chase Adams was the first team pick for JSU. Alcorn State’s Jeremiah Kendall was a first team pick for the Braves. Check out the full preseason awards here.

SUMMARY: Parts of the region could see storms on Father’s Day, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and heat indices in the upper 90s. Afternoon storms may bring gusty winds and hail, though severe weather is not expected. Monday follows a similar pattern with scattered afternoon storms. A high-pressure system will move in by Thursday, bringing well-above-average temperatures. Heat indices may reach 107–110 degrees by Friday, especially west of I-55 in Mississippi. The week ahead will remain hot and humid, with increasingly oppressive heat expected through the weekend. Stay weather-aware and hydrated amid the steamy conditions.
