Tips to protect your home during termite season
SUMMARY: Termite season has returned to South Mississippi, with aggressive Formosan termites swarming around lights, especially around Mother’s Day. Bay Pest Control’s Bruno Milanese explains the colonies overpopulate in winter, and reproductives swarm near dusk, attracted to lights. To deter them, he suggests turning off outdoor lights and closing curtains at night. Moisture around the home, particularly above ground, also attracts termites—check for leaks and rotting near eaves, windows, and door frames. Spotting a few wingless termites indoors isn’t urgent, but seeing large numbers signals a need for professional inspection. Annual termite inspections are recommended to prevent damage.
