Out-of-state homeless population increasing, Biloxi resource center says
SUMMARY: In Buuy, Mississippi, the homeless population is increasing, with many newcomers arriving from out of state. Organizations report that over 140 individuals received meals from local resource centers recently. A case worker at St. Vincent de Paul noted a significant influx of new people, complicating the landscape of homelessness. Many individuals frequent the Broadwater property, which has faced clearing efforts. City officials acknowledge challenges in addressing the needs of the homeless, particularly those struggling with mental health and addiction. Experts suggest the region’s mild weather and casino culture contribute to the rising number of homeless individuals.
More than 140 people across Biloxi received meals at homeless resource centers Wednesday.
