SWAC holds Media Day for women's hoops
SUMMARY: The SWAC women’s basketball season kicks off with media day in Atlanta, featuring Jackson State as reigning champions under new head coach Margaret Richards. She, a former assistant at Mercer and ex-coach of Alabama A&M, aims to uphold the winning tradition and championship goals. Alcorn State, led by Nate Gilbert, is also seen as a strong contender after reaching the SWAC championship game last year. They boast the preseason offensive player of the year, Destiny Brown, and are focused on integrating new recruits and enhancing team chemistry. Both teams will start their seasons on November 4th.
JSU, Alcorn State and MVSU women’s basketball teams are gearing up another season. JSU has a new head coach in Margaret Richards who takes over a Tigers program that has been dominant in the SWAC. Alcorn State returns key players to a team that made a run to the SWAC Championship and they’re out to prove that last year wasn’t a fluke. MVSU is led by first team all preseason pick Sh’Diamond McKnight as they look to turn heads this year. Grambling was picked to win the league, JSU fourth and Alcorn State 7th in the preseason poll. Alcorn State’s Destiny Brown was picked as the Offensive Player of the Year while her teammate Zy’Nia White as a second team selection.

Jones County investigators work to solve 2011 cold case
SUMMARY: Jones County cold case investigators seek help solving the 2011 murder of Charles “Charlie” Adcock. Adcock was found shot in the head inside his Ellisville home on June 23, the same day his Waynesboro pawn shop was burglarized. Waynesboro police had requested to check on him but couldn’t reach him; his daughter said Sayto Ford arrived first and found the body. Handguns, cash, and keys to his vehicle and businesses were missing. Witnesses reported a Black woman came to Adcock’s door the night before asking for help, believed to be a decoy. Two men were seen waiting in a sedan, possibly a Pontiac. Investigators suspect gang involvement possibly linked to Adcock’s daughter. Motive may involve money Ford sought from Adcock, which he refused. Anyone with information is urged to call authorities.
