SUMMARY: Mississippi is struggling to fill teaching positions, with 5,012 vacancies reported in education roles, marking a slight increase from the previous school year. Regional disparities exist, with more vacancies filled in the northeast and southeast but growing gaps in the northwest and central areas. The state has proposed strategies including forming an advisory group, promoting new education pathways, requesting legislative support, and launching professional development portals and workshops to tackle the issue. Teacher retention efforts continue with programs like the Mississippi Teacher Residency and the Elevate Teachers Conference.
