SUMMARY: A man, Christopher Brazil, is in jail facing capital murder charges for allegedly killing Heather Smith during a burglary at her home. The crime was discovered when her boyfriend found the door kicked in and her body inside. Investigators collected evidence, including fired cartridges, signs of forced entry, and a footprint at the scene. They used surveillance footage to identify Brazil, capturing him near Smith’s home in his silver Chevy Silverado. Further investigation, including unlocking Smith’s phone, confirmed his presence and connection to the crime. A judge will soon decide on Brazil’s bail status, while Smith’s family mourns her loss.

According to court documents, an officer was called to Heather Smith’s home on Beechmoor Drive near Creek Crest Drive on Friday. When investigators arrived, Smith’s boyfriend let them in the house. He told investigators he went to the house to check on Smith because she wasn’t responding to text messages or calls. Smith’s boyfriend said when he got to the house, the front door was kicked in and he found Smith shot to death lying on the floor, according to court records.

Investigators said they found multiple fired cartridges inside Smith’s home, signs of forced entry, a footprint on the door and Smith’s body lying on a bedroom floor, court documents say.
