SUMMARY: Ship Island Excursions, a popular tourist attraction, has seen a bounce back in business after a difficult three-year period. From 2019-2021, the attraction faced challenges including the Bonnet Carre Spillway opening, COVID-19, and damages from Hurricane Zeta. These factors prevented service to the island in 2021. However, the weather has played a big role in bringing visitors back this year. Despite the hot and dry conditions, the business has benefited from favorable weather. Ship Island Excursions is optimistic about the upcoming summer tourism season and expects to collect the necessary data within the next 18 months.

SUMMARY: Legacy Park in Jackson County is moving forward with its original design plans after Hyde’s Chancery Court upheld approval for a medical and retail center. The court confirmed the need for more medical services, addressing a shortage of primary care in Gocha. The project faced opposition from Singing River Health System and Jackson County Board of Supervisors but gained support from locals, including Gocha Mayor Casey Vaughn, who called it a “game changer.” Developer Dr. Saudi Lisa and partners are now fully committed to building the medical center, retail stores, condos, and a boulevard, with construction expected to start in 3-4 months.
