Stokes won’t vote for Hutton as next Parks and Rec director

SUMMARY: Some members of the Council are unhappy with the appointment of interim Parks and Recreation director Stephen Hutton. Councilman Kenneth Stokes believes that Chokwe A. Lumumba should have consulted the council before making the appointment, especially considering Hutton’s previous guilty plea for promoting prostitution. Stokes believes there were better candidates for the position, such as Deputy Director Abram Muhammad. Hutton is serving in an interim capacity for 90 days, but if the mayor his name for a permanent role, Stokes plans to vote against it. Hutton has previous experience overseeing the Sanderson Farms Tournament and the Mississippi Fair Commission.
