State health department warns of lead presence in recalled cups for toddlers
SUMMARY: The Mississippi State Department of Health is advising parents to discard PandaEar children’s cups sold on Amazon due to a recall. Announced by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission on November 22, the recall is due to high lead levels in the solder bead on the cup’s bottom and a lid design that could break, creating choking and laceration hazards. Lead exposure is particularly dangerous to children, causing symptoms like headaches, abdominal pain, vomiting, and anemia. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled cups and contact PandaEar for a refund.

Pearl, a Rankin County suburb, remains in a dry county where liquor sales require special approval. Although Pearl has resort status permitting wine and liquor by the glass in restaurants and beer sales in stores, residents must still travel elsewhere for liquor purchases. Mayor Jake Windham, who opposed liquor stores but supported honoring the vote, expressed disappointment, emphasizing the importance of respecting citizens’ voices and preventing retail leakage.
