State Board of Education approves three new early learning collaboratives to serve pre-K 4-year-olds
SUMMARY: The Mississippi State Board of Education voted to add three new early learning collaboratives to provide high-quality pre-K programs to 4-year-old students. This expansion is funded by $792,500 in state funds and marks the first time a Head Start grantee will manage an ELC’s grant funds. The goal is to better prepare preschoolers for kindergarten, with Mississippi being recognized as meeting all quality standards for pre-K. The three new ELCs will serve 317 students in existing classrooms, with a funding opportunity for more schools to join in the future. Over 6,200 students will be served in the 2023-24 school year.
