Southern Miss to place overdose-reversing kits inside residence halls

SUMMARY: The University of Southern Mississippi has taken steps to prevent overdose deaths by installing emergency kits containing Narcan in residence halls on its Hattiesburg campus. This initiative, made possible by a grant from the Jimmy A. Payne Foundation, makes Southern Miss the first Mississippi college or university to provide overdose emergency kits stocked with Narcan, instructions for use, and CPR masks in campus housing. The grant also funded the purchase of 300 doses of Narcan, with 50 doses available in the emergency kits and the remaining doses reserved for students who undergo Narcan training. Narcan rapidly reverses opioid overdoses and can potentially save lives.

Mississippi well-represented with pair of players featured in SEC weekly honors

Bray Hubbard, an Ocean Springs native playing for Alabama, was named SEC co-defensive player of the week after five tackles and two interceptions in a 38-14 win over Wisconsin. He allowed just one catch on five targets and earned a 92.0 grade from Pro Football Focus. Ole Miss left tackle Diego Pounds earned co-offensive lineman of the week honors for helping backup quarterback Trinidad Chambliss lead the Rebels to a 41-35 win over Arkansas, playing all 75 snaps and allowing just one sack.

Jackson State alum Tramell Tillman wins Emmy for ‘Severance’ role
