SNAP changes coming Sept. 1
SUMMARY: Beginning next month, changes to SNAP benefits will take effect. The changes only affect able-bodied adults without dependents between the ages of 50 and 54. These individuals will now have to meet work requirements to receive SNAP benefits. However, there are exemptions for homeless people, veterans, youth aged 18 to 24 who aged out of foster care, individuals with physical or mental limitations, pregnant individuals, and those with children aged 18 or younger. State agencies administering SNAP benefits will have reduced discretion in granting exemptions. Failure to meet work requirements will limit eligibility to three months of benefits within a three-year period.
