Six additional deer test positive for Chronic Wasting Disease in Mississippi

SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks reports six new instances of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in deer across four counties. Five cases were found in DeSoto, Benton, and Marshall counties, with a sixth in Claiborne, marking its first occurrence there. A buck from Claiborne is awaiting final confirmation. Samples are being tested at Mississippi State University’s lab. CWD is a deadly brain disease in deer, causing various symptoms before death. Since 2018, Mississippi has confirmed 315 CWD cases in 16 counties, with the highest numbers in Marshall and Benton.
