State accountability grades show more than 85 percent of schools rated C or above
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Education reported that 85.7% of schools and 93.9% of districts achieved grades of C or higher for the 2023-24 school year. This marks the highest percentage of districts rated A, B, or C since the state set its goal in 2016, when only 62% met the target. Significant improvements in statewide student assessments were noted, with record proficiency levels in mathematics, English Language Arts, and science. Dr. Lance Evans, state superintendent, praised the achievements and progress in Mississippi’s educational system, which has risen from 50th to 35th in national rankings since 2013.
