Daniel Sparks, the bill shifts towards treatment for meth addiction. It raises the misdemeanor amount from one-tenth of a gram to one gram, imposing up to 30 days in jail and a $250 fine for a first offense. Second offenses incur harsher fines and up to six months in jail, while a third offense becomes a felony, risking five years in prison and a $50,000 fine. Although Pearl has resort status permitting wine and liquor by the glass in restaurants and beer sales in stores, residents must still travel elsewhere for liquor purchases. Mayor Jake Windham, who opposed liquor stores but supported honoring the vote, expressed disappointment, emphasizing the importance of respecting citizens’ voices and preventing retail leakage.
