SUMMARY: The effort to legalize mobile sports betting in Mississippi will persist following a failed campaign in 2024. While the House of Representatives aims to reintroduce legislation favoring mobile betting for those 21 and over, Senate Gaming Committee Chair David Blount expresses skepticism, fearing it may harm brick-and-mortar casinos and tourism-driven economic growth. However, Mississippi casinos oppose such legalization, citing concerns over reduced revenues. As the new legislative session progresses, the future of mobile sports betting remains uncertain, with the Senate unlikely to draft supportive legislation.

Mayor Jake Windham, who opposed liquor stores but supported honoring the vote, expressed disappointment, emphasizing the importance of respecting citizens’ voices and preventing retail leakage.
