SEC institutes new rule requiring schools to provide public injury reports
SUMMARY: The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has mandated increased transparency regarding player injury statuses for all member institutions, including Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Starting this football season, schools must submit availability reports three days prior to games, with daily updates leading to a final report 90 minutes before kickoff. Players will be classified as “available,” “probable,” “questionable,” “doubtful,” or “out.” Noncompliance could result in fines ranging from $25,000 to $100,000. This rule also applies to men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, and softball, with slightly lower penalties for noncompliance. Coaches will need to adapt to this change to avoid penalties.

Mississippi governor deploying national guard troops to Washington, D.C.
SUMMARY: Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves approved deploying 200 National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., backing President Donald Trump’s federal takeover of the city’s police force and surge of federal agents. Trump’s move follows rising violent crime, including the recent assault of a government employee and last year’s fatal carjacking of former official Mike Gill. Reeves said the Guard will help “restore law and order” and ensure public safety. Trump has 30 days of emergency control but may extend it through a national emergency. D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb is suing over the takeover. Other GOP governors are also sending troops.
